Isabella's Above-Ground Pool
"I won't share cuz it's not fair!" Is nine-year-old Isabella Speedwalker-Juarez's motto. It's all because she's stuck in aroom with her toddler brother, Dozer. Mom says Izzy needs to adapt to Granny's tiny trailer, where they've just moved because money is tight and Mom is worried about losing her job at the gum factory. Izzy knows what will make everything better — an above-ground pool.

P.S. Given the current political climate in Iran, now may be an especially poignant time to read Dawn & Dusk. Dawn and Dusk provides valuable insight into the lives of children in Iran, a country we know little about, and the life of its large Kurdish minority. Today, the US is caught up in a complex, dangerous involvement in regional conflict, which began years ago. Without the back-story, the brief news-bites we see on the nightly news make little sense.—AM
